The World is a very big place.
It has over fifty seven million square miles of land and almost one hundred and thirty nine million square miles of water.
From the deepest part of the ocean to the tip of the highest mountain is over sixty five thousand feet.
My atlas lists two hundred and eighteen principal countries and territories from Afghanistan to Zambia.
It’s big.
Why then does the world for most people consist of their house, their office, the pub and the roads that join them together ? Why do people who live in such a big World choose to inhabit such tiny worlds ?
I was as guilty of it as anyone. I was already over thirty when I first left the United Kingdom. It was a hellish experience. My trip to Florida included stolen luggage, lost passports, non-existant tickets, threats of prison from an officious little hotel manager and part of the aeroplane falling off.
I couldn't wait to do it all again.
Since then I've been all over the place. I went to China, Zambia, Madagascar,Thailand, The Philippines, Scandinavia, America, Peru. I could fill the screen with a list.
The problem is that its addictive. Every high has to be bigger and better than the last one. Eventually I decided that spending most of my year living in my own tiny world wasn't enough. I wanted to live in the World with a capital 'W'.
I quit my job and spent the next nine months travelling around the Americas. This site is the story of that trip.
If it looks like it was fun that's because it was.
You could do it if you really wanted to. Anyone can.
