What you should be able to see between these trees is the city of Santiago. Unfortunately it's quite a polluted place and the haze not only hides most of the view but blends it into the horizon.
How many beaches are there with such a nice view of an active volcano in the background ?
It might LOOK like Switzerland but it's actually San Carlos de Bariloche in Argentina. Apart from the look the only things it has in common with Switzerland are the prices.
El Chalten (you are looking at pretty much the whole town) is a remote and tiny place that has no conceivable reason for existing apart from some pretty good hiking trails.
Not many places have been so wonderful that they get two pictures on the site. (Brilliant though many of them were.) The Moreno Glacier though, that's something else. If I published twenty pictures it still wouln't be enough.)
Ah life on the open road. There can't be many places where the roads are quite as open as they are in Patagonia. This is a typical 'view'. If you think it looks bleak you should try driving along it for a couple of days.
Finally made it, all the way from Alaska to Ushuaia at the Southernmost point of my trip. Now just the northern leg back to Rio to go !
Penguins are the most cooperative photographic models. They stand very still for very long periods and don't care how close you get.
Hard though it is to believe these are photographs of the same city, Buenos Aires. The ultra modern facade presented on the right is the approach from Uruguay while the brightly coloured buildings on the ledt are in the artists quarter.
Somewhere else that deserves fifty photographs is the Iguassu Falls. I only have room for two of them here. Eleanor Roosevelt when she saw the falls declared 'Poor Niagara !'. I have to agree. Iguassu is one of the most impressive things I have ever seen.
This colourful little town was our last stop before Rio de Janeiro, a wonderful place called Paraty.

And finally the carnival, much better pictures of which can be found by following the link on the Links page.
Hope you enjoyed the pictures. It's not the same as being there though. Quit your job tomorrow and go. I guarantee it all looks even better in real life.
